Welcome to the Wonca online submission process. Please read the general information first.
General Information: To facilitate abstract processing, the deadline for submission is Monday, August 31, 2009.
Abstracts must be limited to 250 words or less: Please develop your abstract off-line before accessing the online submission form. Use the spell checking and word count features of your word processor to check the text of the abstract before submitting it. Each contributed paper must be categorized under two types: Research Project or Programme. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on current and emerging family medicine issues.
Wonca encourages authors to submit abstracts related with the Millennium Development Goals, or the main areas/topics selected for the Conference.
To be eligible for consideration, abstracts must be submitted by the deadline at the online submission web site. You will be notified by email of abstract status by 2 months after your submission, so a current email address MUST be provided.
To submit an abstract you do not need to be registered previously to the Conference. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenter MUST register for the Conference. Failing to do the aforementioned steps may result in not being permitted to present it in the Wonca Conference, and the abstract will not be published in the Conference proceedings.
Authors may submit their abstracts to only ONE Section. If your abstract is accepted, you (or a substitute presenter) are committed to making the presentation at the meeting. Review carefully the list of Topics to determine which one might be most appropriate for your subject area. If you have specific questions about the relevance of your abstract to a specific Topic, you may contact the Scientific Committee (scientific.committee@wonca2010cancun.com).
Type of abstract: Define the type of your proposed abstract. Consider the following definitions, but remember that the last decision corresponds exclusively to you.
- Research project: This type of abstract should contain information derived from a comprehensive scientific research, based on research methodology and which has at least partial results.
- Programme or proposal: This type of abstract should contain information derived from personal experiences that can be clinical, managerial, educational, etc. The report of new forms of organization of the consultation, addressing certain problematic areas or programs to reduce waiting times, could be examples that can be inserted under this type. The main difference with research projects is that programmes are not based on scientific methodology.
Session Formats: A variety of instructional formats are used for presentation at the Wonca Conference.
- Oral Presentation: Accepted reports, grouped by topic, are presented at 90 minute sessions. Authors will have 10 minutes to present their reports. Authors are encouraged to allot time for questions and comments from the audience. The Host Organizing Committee of the Wonca Conference will provide the following audio visual equipment to the presenter: laptop, LCD projector, overhead projector and screen.
- Poster: This meeting format is a visual presentation of recent findings combined with informal discussion between the presenters and the audience. Authors illustrate their findings by displaying graphs, photographs, diagrams and limited text on poster boards. Authors hold discussions with registrants who circulate among the poster boards. Presenters are expected to remain by their board for the duration of the session. No audio visual equipment is permitted for this format.
- Workshop: This format allows for highly interactive, lively and informative presentations, with substantial opportunity for discussion with the audience, focusing on recent research findings, or innovative and controversial topics. Presented at 20-person workshop, each presenter is assigned to a workshop.
Abstract Evaluation: Abstracts are evaluated on the substance and clarity of content, relevance and timeliness in terms of public health practice/issues, specificity, practicality and clarity of educational objectives, appropriateness to session format.
